We often think that supporting someone means having the answers. We feel we should know what to say, or how to make things better. When we don't, we can hold back, worried we will get it wrong.
A lighthouse offers a different picture. It doesn't chase the boats or tell them how to sail. It doesn't shout or hurry. It stays where it is, steady through every kind of weather, and keeps its light on.
Being there for someone can look a lot like that. Checking in. Being patient. Staying present when things are hard, without needing to fix them. Letting someone know you are there, and that you will still be there tomorrow.
Throughout my working life I have seen how much this matters. A steady presence can help people find their own way through, at their own pace.
You don't have to fix everything. Sometimes being there is enough.
